Skin Purging 101

Skin purging refers to your skins reaction to a certain active ingredient that increases cell turnover causing your skin to bring forth blockages and dirt which can lead to breakouts.

Do not fear the purge. Skin purging is actually a good thing. While it is temporary, it's also a sign that your skin care products are working. Your skin is cleaning out the gunk that has built up over time and will slowly get rid of it through

• Pustules

• Whiteheads

• Blackheads

• Cysts

How to tell if it's purging or a breakout? If it last longer than 4 to 6 weeks, it's most likely a breakout. Also, purging normally occurs in areas where you normally have pimples, so if your acne is in a new area, this is probably not purging.

While this may not be fun, the best thing to do when treating a purge is to wait it out. Continue with your routine, or reduce product use to every other day. Your skin purge is a good thing and just like any breakout, will clear up in time. So not be discouraged and do not stop! Your skin will thank you 🙂
